According to the United States Postal Service (USPS), an Electronic Return Receipt is legally equivalent to the traditional physical green card (PS Form 3811).
Court Acceptance of Electronic Return Receipts
Most courts recognize the Electronic Return Receipt as valid proof of delivery and accept either format. However, specific courts, judges, or types of legal proceedings may still require the original, physical green card with an ink signature.
Decide Which to Use
Before sending mail for legal purposes, verify the specific requirements with the clerk of court or the relevant authority handling your case. They will confirm if the Electronic Return Receipt is acceptable for your proceeding.
How to Request the Physical Green Card
If your jurisdiction requires the traditional physical card, Docsmit offers that option.
To receive the physical green card back in the mail, select “Certified, Return Receipt” as your Send Type. (Do not select “Certified, Return Receipt Electronic” for this option).

After selecting the Electronic Return Receipt option, there are two ways to get your signature file. You can get it from your Docsmit account or from https://www.usps.com/. You check tracking status in both locations!
